FAQ

I’ve been unhappy in my marriage/relationship for a while. Can this really help?

The fact that you are asking the question tells me you are invested in figuring out how to work on your relationship. Don’t lose hope, relationships can be worked on at any point! I’ve helped couples in the beginning of their relationship clarify potential pitfalls in their values and lifestyles as well as strengthening their communication skills. If you have been together for a long time, the relationship can be worked on but it can take a while to work through the longstanding negative patterns of communication which can be a result of hurt/angry feelings.  I find that clients need to be committed to the collaborative effort required for improving their relationship. Therapy is a lot like life; you get out of it what you put into it!

What if my significant other doesn’t want to come in? Can I still benefit from counseling?

Of course! You can gain skills and tools that will help you change how you interact with your significant other. If you change the way you look at the problem, the problem changes! If you react differently to your lover, they often will react differently to you. Major changes can occur in a relationship from just one person altering their thoughts and behaviors and I would love to help you make those improvements!

Do you work with other issues besides relationships?

Yes. I have experience helping both individuals and couples work through many of life’s challenges like feeling depressed or anxious. I also specialize in helping people deal with the traumatic, hurtful situations that we have all had that make us feel stuck.

Shouldn’t I be able to figure this out on my own?

Sometimes we can’t see the forest through the trees. It happens to all of us!  It is not uncommon to think we can handle these situations on our own…and we can, but how many emotional bumps and bruises do you need to endure to reach your goal of relationship harmony?

We all have blind spots and it can be helpful to get an unbiased feedback from an outsider. We often hire accountants to help us do our taxes because their expertise can help you save time and money. Same is true here.

I want you to feel better in the quickest time possible.
